Mackinaw Island

Here is my visit to Mackinaw Island last weekend. I had an amazing time... if you have never heard of Mackinaw Island it is an island on Lake Huron, they do not have any gas power vehicles except for an ambulance and fire engine. They do however have tons of horse and buggy's and bicycles! Once you get onto the island there is a fort that you can visit, tons of walking/cycling trials and a vast array of scenic photo ops! The houses on the island are gorgeous and I'm assuming only for those who can afford a 1/2 to million dollar summer home! The governor of Michigan has a "summer house" on the island too. If you are ever up north I definitely suggest going to visit. The photos of the bridge is the famous 5 mile Mackinaw bridge connecting Mackinaw City to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

This is a shot taken with 2 exposures looking outside of a lighthouse porthole, what a great view!

View of the Mackinaw bridge from the upper peninsula side.

While crossing the lake to get to the island the sun was shining on the bridge tower.

A lighthouse on the upper peninsula side in St. Ignace.

The ferry's that took you to the island and back... they said the spray of water is called a "Rooster Tail" !

A beautiful rock formation on the island called "Arch Rock" over looking Lake Huron.

One of the MANY horses on the island!

The inside of the lighthouses were set up the way they were used in the 1800's/early 1900's.

One of the cottages overlooking the lake on the island.

This is the canon on the fort that they set off during the day for tourists.

There were so many seagulls!
